Tooth Whitening Toothpastes Review.
There have been many claims of great tooth whitening products for miracle results in toothpastes for a very long time. On this page we will discuss the Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How of these whitening toothpastes used for tooth whitening purposes.
Who:
This is generally marketed towards the mass population as the most effective and economical method for tooth whitening. Although the truth is somewhat different, as always, from their marketing.
What:
Whitening toothpastes are basically the same as regular toothpaste except the producers have added chemicals and/or polishing agents for tooth whitening results. While some brands do contain peroxide, it is important to remember that whitening toothpastes do not bleach teeth to achieve tooth whitening.
Where:
Whitening toothpastes simply replace your regular toothpaste and you use them (as directed) directly on your teeth using a toothbrush for application to your teeth.
When:
Generally when using whitening toothpastes your dental hygiene habits should not change and when brushing 2 to 3 times a day your tooth whitening will be a side effect of normal brushing habits.
Why:
Whitening toothpastes are used as an economical substitute for other tooth whitening procedures and methods which sometimes can be more expensive.
How:
Whitening toothpastes simply polish teeth and through the use of peroxide can whiten teeth a few shades but these are not that effective for long term and permanent results.
Effectiveness:
Whitening toothpastes are useful as a maintenance treatment for teeth that have been whitened by another product/method and should not be used alone for tooth whitening. Although by using whitening toothpastes your teeth will be clean and further discoloration can be avoided.
Advantages/Disadvantages
The biggest advantage of whitening toothpastes is their ability to keep tooth looking great after undergoing another teeth whitening procedure. While some of the top end products in this line are expensive, generally speaking whitening toothpastes are an inexpensive way to keep teeth clean and help polish teeth giving you that winning smile.
The major disadvantages of whitening toothpastes is that the hype does not match the results. For tooth whitening success these whitening toothpastes should only be used for general maintenance and not as the only method used.
Bottom Line:
Whitening toothpastes should only used as a maintenance tool. No one should rely solely on whitening toothpaste for tooth whitening.
