Symptoms of Gum Disease
One day you just might be deciding to go to the dentist for a normal cleaning. You’ll also be visiting her because you have a crush on her and would like to ask her out for dinner.. Then when you are finally there having all sorts of things being probed in your mouth, your doctor shrieks with what she has to tell you. She first tells you that she’s getting married and the other is that you are now having periodontitis.
Wow, talk about your lucky day. It would make you want to shout but it would only cause more pain. But let’s not focus on your personal life. Let’s try to figure out how in the world you got periodontitis and you may be able to help out others as well.
You may not have noticed this happening to you because periodontitis don’t produce any obvious signs even in its late stages. The periodontitis is a very clever and sneaky disease. It has some warnings as well that may lead you to find out more if you have the disease.
If you have bleeding gums before and after brushing, constant bad taste and breathe, red swollen and tender gums, receding gums, loosening of teeth, formation of pockets that are now deep between the teeth and gums and changes in the way you bite things may be considered symptoms.
If you are becoming more paranoid that you might have one or more of the symptoms, then having a diagnosis may be best. During this time your gums are checked for bleeding, firmness and swelling. A full mouth x-ray is also given to assess the breakdown of bone surrounding your teeth.
The dentist or expert may also do some periodontal probes. He will insert a tiny ruler inside the pockets of your teeth and the further the ruler goes the more damage has been done. If the doctor also starts hearing an echo, that might be a really big problem already.
Healthy gums that are studs, have pockets that measure that measure less than 3 millimeters and X-ray results show no bone loss. Gums should also be pinkish and be very tight as well.
Following the diagnosis the dentist will then further analyze to figure out what would be the best treatment for you. There are various ways of treating the disease, from simply taking antibiotics or to the extreme part of having surgery done already.
Bottom-line, if you not want ot have bad new when you go to the dentist, become better with your oral hygiene.
