The Controversies Surrounding Teeth Whitening

Treatment

Whenever something becomes popular, a controversy is sure to follow and teeth whitening treatments are no exception. We have pinpointed three controversies surrounding teeth whitening treatments and have tried to distinguish which is fact from fiction.

Teeth Whitening Controversy # 1 – It’s not safe.

People who are disinclined to favor modern medicinal breakthroughs view teeth whitening treatments as unsafe – these are the same people who still don’t believe that an artificial heart can help those with circulatory problems and that laser eye corrections bring disadvantages than blessing. Studies however reveal that teeth whitening treatments are safe and effective and only a very minute percentage of this does lead to harm to those who have undergone the treatment.

As with all other medicinal products, people may experience side effects when the components of the teeth whitening products they’re using do not agree with them. But side effects are usually not that serious (teeth sensitivity and gum irritation) and can be lessened by using the teeth whitening products less frequently.

When symptoms persist however, all you have to do is consult your dentist about the products you’re using. Furthermore, if you truly want to be assured of your teeth’s safety, don’t patronize any teeth whitening product unless you’ve been given the go-ahead by your dentist or the products has the ADA’s seal of approval.

Teeth Whitening Controversy # 2 – It’s a sin.

Well, you’ve heard it said about Botox and other aesthetic surgeries; it’s not so surprising that this superstition would also touch teeth whitening treatments, as well. Your judgment regarding this controversy depends on your religious perspective. Teeth whitening do not at least change the components of your teeth whereas breast implants and other related surgeries dramatically alter your body parts. And consider the alternative: would you prefer living the rest of your life with yellowed teeth?

Teeth Whitening Controversy # 3 – It takes away business from dentists.

Dentists feel that teeth whitening products like teeth whitening toothpastes, whitening gels and bleaching solutions take away business from them. They say that these teeth whitening products encourage consumers to do treatments by themselves. But this is simply not true!

For one thing, instructions in some teeth whitening products include suggestions to consult with their dentists and explanations regarding alternative teeth whitening treatments. So instead of stealing their customers away, they’re actually driving back more traffic to dental clinics.

So what do you feel about teeth whitening now: Go for white or stay with yellow?
