What to Ask

If you have already decided to go ahead with a treatment for that whiter, brighter smile, then congratulations. We all want to look our best in hopes that even THIS, might help us get ahead in life, in ways big or small.

Before starting with the treatments though, it is important for you to know all thare is to know about your particular case so that you might have the assurance that you know 100% what you can expect from the results thereof.

The dental procedure is one of a cosmetic nature so, to an extent, you will also have to play a key role in achieving the outcome you desire from the treatment. Talk to your dental care professional.

1 Tell him about the physical results you would like to achieve so that he can, in turn, tell you -- after his examination of your teeth -- if such results are attainable and what will it entail for you to do so.

2 Because there are so many types of treatments now available, maybe he can suggest another system better suited to you if he feels, again after your examination, that the one you have chosen is not the best one for your case.

3 When you have finally decided on the type of procedure to be administered, you should then find out how long the procedure will take. How many sessions, how long per session ... so that you can also be well advised prior to the event about how to schedule your time and finances.

4 It would be great if money grew on trees but since realistically, it doesn't, realistically, it is also important to know beforehand how much damage to your pocket all this is going to cause. Asking for the amount on the price tag for this product/service is a must, straight away. Furthermore, find out if your dentist's office offers financing schemes that can make the settlement for your treatment feel easier on the budget.

5 Ask your particular dentist how much experience he has had with performing this procedure. It is not rocket science nor can it have deathly effects if not done perfectly, but of course you would like to get the best valoue for your money. If he admittedly is alittle wet behind the ears on the practice, perhaps, you would be more comfortable if he pointed you towards a more experienced professional who can provide the servoce for you instead.

6 However, if he HAS had sufficient experience in the practice, then he should tell you about the different complications and side effects that could be typical to such a procedure, if there are any. And particularly, how many of his own patients have complained about which complications post treatment.

7 Find out if after the treatment, you are unsatisfied with the results as they do not seem to coincide with what you had asked for and discussed prior, if your professional will repeat or correct the procedure and if you will or will not be charged again or additionally for it.

8 Because the procedure is cosmetic, your dentist should have a file on the treatments he has already gathered to his name. This file will probably bear the before and after photos of his patients. Ask to see this collection. It might give you an idea of the results you will also probably achieve.

9 Sometimes, if you are wary about the procedure, your dentist could be kind enough to allow you to observe an actual procedure being done ... either through videotape or live ... if you feel you must, to appease your concern, ask your dentist if he can arrange this for you.

10 Lastly, you should ask for any symptoms that you should expect or watch out for after the procedure. What can and can't you put into your mouth after it, and for how long. Make sure that your new beautiful smile stays on, a lot longer than after your visit to the dentist.
