Preventing Tooth Problems for Adults

Other disease that some adults have such as those undergoing chemotherapy are able to suffer from oral problems. These cause the patient to have painful mouth ulcers, salivary dysfunction that causes dry mouth and impaired taste. People who have been experiencing disease that weaken the immune system are at a higher risk for oral problems. These are the diseases like HIV and those that had organ transplant.

Here are some advices that can help you to maintain great oral health.

• Fluoride protection should be used by people. Use toothpaste with fluoride and drink fluorinated water as well.

• Prevent plaque by brushing your teeth and flossing. Since plaque can cause gingivitis.

• Tobacco smokers have got 7 more times the risk of being able to develop gum disease. Avoiding tobacco lessens the chance of oral and throat cancer, gum disease, and oral and fungal infections. Tobacco containing sugar also causes tooth decay.

• Alcohol drinkers may be in the position of risking themselves to oral and throat cancers. The risk will be greater if both tobacco and alcohol are used more often and combined by the person.

• When eating snacks, try to avoid starchy and sugary foods. Try eating more fibrous foods as they stimulate salivary flow that aid in providing minerals of tooth surfaces that are in the early stages of tooth decay.

• Visit the dentist regularly so that he can see if there is a problem or will be problem.

• When you go the dentist have prophylaxis cleaning this helps out for people who are not well into cleaning their tooth.

• Maintain control of your diabetic disease, as it will prevent the increased risk of having gum disease.

• Ask for other drugs that can be used if some of them cause your mouth to bedry.

• Chemotherapy radiation in the neck and head area will cause further tooth and oral health damage.

• It is suggested to have oral treatments first before going chemotherapy for cancer patients.
